What moves the price

What moves the price.

Height and glass, mostly.

01

Height, more than width

Going from a 3-foot sideboard to a 7-foot full-height unit more than doubles the material for the same wall width. Height is the first number to fix.

02

Glass shutters add cost in three places

The glass itself, the aluminium profile frame, and the heavier hinges needed to carry it. A glass-fronted section runs roughly 40% more per foot than a solid one.

03

A bar section changes the internals

Bottle racks, stemware holders and a mirrored back are all bespoke internal work. Expect ₹15,000–₹35,000 for the bar portion alone.

04

Lighting inside the display

Profile LED inside a glass section needs a driver, a switch and concealed routing through the carcass. Budget ₹6,000–₹18,000 depending on the number of sections.

Watch for

Where quotes get misleading.

These are the things that make two quotes look different when the scope is identical.

Quoted at 6ft, delivered at 6ft

Many quotes assume a 6-foot height because it is cheaper. Confirm the height in writing — the difference to a 7-foot unit is substantial and easy to miss on a drawing.

Glass thickness unspecified

5mm toughened is the minimum for a shutter. Thinner untoughened glass in a family home is a genuine safety issue, not just a durability one.

Loft above not included

If the unit stops below the ceiling, ask what happens to the gap. Leaving it open creates a dust ledge nobody can reach.

Appliance cut-outs

A microwave or an oven in a tall unit needs a ventilated cut-out sized to the exact model. Confirm the appliance before the unit is built.

Good questions

Cost questions people ask.

Roughly ₹1,800–₹2,200 per running foot for a standard 7-foot closed unit, so ₹45,000–₹75,000 for a typical dining wall. Glass-fronted display sections push it to ₹2,200–₹2,600 per foot.

Because it is a direct multiplier on material and shutter area. A 7-foot unit uses more than twice the material of a 3-foot sideboard across the same wall width. Fix the height before comparing quotes.

For a section, yes — it breaks up a large solid mass and gives somewhere to display things. For the whole unit, no: you end up committed to keeping the entire contents tidy and dust-free.

5mm toughened, minimum, for any shutter. Untoughened glass in a shutter that gets opened daily in a family home is a safety issue, and the cost difference is small.

Yes, in a tall unit with a properly sized ventilated cut-out. You need to choose the exact appliance model before the unit is built, because the cut-out is made to its dimensions and cannot be adjusted later.
