Perpendicular to it. A window directly behind the monitor causes glare; a window behind your chair silhouettes you on video calls. Side light is the one arrangement that works for both.
Yes, and most of ours do. The thing to plan for is the sightline from the bed — a desk covered in work visible from where you sleep is a known problem. A shallow cabinet door that closes over the desk area solves it.
A grommet through the desktop, a tray underneath, and a power point at desk height rather than at the skirting. All three have to be decided before the desk is built, because retrofitting means drilling a finished surface.
Only if you are on calls for several hours a day in a room with hard floors and bare walls. In a carpeted or curtained bedroom the difference is small and the money is better spent elsewhere.
