Gypsum board is the usual indoor choice. It is factory-made so the finish is consistent, it installs faster and it cracks less over time. POP is still used for curved and custom mouldings where board cannot follow the shape.
A single-level plain ceiling loses about 4 inches. A peripheral cove loses the same at the edges while keeping the centre height, which is why it is preferred in standard Bengaluru flats with 10-foot ceilings.
