Demolition and disposal
Reaching the slab means removing tiles and screed. In a bathroom this is a third of the cost and most of the mess, and it is unavoidable if the area is actively leaking.
Waterproofing in Bangalore costs ₹60 to ₹200 per square foot in 2026.
Waterproofing in Bangalore costs ₹60 to ₹200 per square foot in 2026. Bathrooms run ₹90–₹180, balconies ₹110–₹200, terraces ₹75–₹160 and wet-wall treatment ₹60–₹120. A standard bathroom costs ₹18,000–₹40,000, and a 1,000 sq ft terrace ₹75,000–₹1.6 lakh.
Rates include preparation, membrane and testing.
Bathroom and balcony rates are quoted with retiling, because the membrane sits beneath the finished floor.

Acrylic membranes are cheapest and shortest lived. Cementitious crystalline systems cost more and penetrate the concrete. PU and polymer-modified systems cost most and handle movement best.
If water ponds, a screed has to be laid to create the fall before any membrane goes on. Adds ₹25–₹60 per square foot, and without it no system will last.
Cove fillets, mesh reinforcement and pipe collars are slow, careful work. This detailing is where cheap quotes save time, and where every failure we are called to fix began.
These are the things that make two quotes look different when the scope is identical.
If the quote does not include a 48-hour flood test before tiling, there is no proof the work succeeded until the ceiling below stains.
Products applied over existing tiles buy time at best. Genuine waterproofing sits under the tile bed, which means the floor has to come up.
A quote given without checking whether water reaches the drain is a quote for a job that will fail. Ask how the fall was assessed.
Waterproofing should carry a written warranty. A verbal assurance on work that is buried under a floor is worth very little.
₹90–₹180 per square foot of treated area, so ₹18,000–₹40,000 for a standard bathroom. Repairing the ceiling of the flat below after a leak typically costs several times that.
A properly detailed bathroom system lasts 10–15 years, terraces and balconies 8–12. The variation is mostly about junction detailing and whether the falls were correct, not about the product.
Not genuinely. Surface products applied over existing tiles buy time and wear through at the grout lines. Real waterproofing sits under the tile bed, so the floor has to come up.
The area is flooded and held for 48 hours while the level and the ceiling below are checked. It is the only proof the membrane works, and it has to happen before tiling — afterwards, finding a fault means breaking a finished floor.
It should be, in writing. We give a written warranty on waterproofing because the work is buried and you cannot inspect it. A verbal assurance on invisible work is worth very little.

Prices are for Bengaluru. Material and labour rates vary by locality less than people expect — access and parking affect it more.
The pattern tells us a lot about where water is entering, which decides the scope and the price.
