Sink at one end, hob at the other, clear prep space between. Reversing that order in a single run means carrying wet vessels across the hob, which is how people end up hating an otherwise good kitchen.
In a short run, base cabinets with doors mean kneeling and reaching. Drawers bring the back of the cabinet to you. It costs more per foot and is the upgrade we recommend first.
If you are fitting out a flat to let, a straight kitchen in a hard laminate gives you a complete, durable kitchen at the lowest cost per year of service.

Boiling-water-resistant ply as standard, boiling-waterproof under the sink and near the hob. We do not use MDF or particle board in wet zones — it swells, and no warranty saves a swollen carcass.
2mm PVC banding on every visible edge, 0.8mm inside. Cheap 0.45mm banding lifts within two Bengaluru monsoons; the edge is where a kitchen ages first.
Hettich or Hafele hinges and channels throughout, not just on the display doors. Rated to 50,000 open-close cycles — roughly twenty years of daily use.
Every panel is pre-treated. In ground and first-floor flats around Whitefield and Sarjapur this is the difference between a ten-year unit and a four-year one.

Yes, in a straight kitchen specifically. The top shelf becomes annual storage rather than daily, but in a single-run kitchen you cannot afford to leave that volume empty.
Only if the room is at least 10 feet wide, which most compact flats are not. We would rather tell you now than sell you a kitchen designed around an island that never comes.
