Engineered wood, real timber that survives an Indian climate.

A genuine hardwood surface on a stable plywood core — the only wood floor we recommend for Bengaluru humidity.

The short answer

What engineered wood flooring costs.

Engineered wood flooring in Bengaluru costs ₹280 to ₹650 per square foot installed. It is the most expensive common flooring option and the only real-wood floor that stays dimensionally stable through Bengaluru's humidity swing, unlike solid hardwood.

What matters here

Why engineered, not solid.

Solid hardwood in this climate is a maintenance commitment most people regret.

01

The cross-ply core resists movement

Layers laid at right angles cancel out each other's expansion. Solid hardwood moves as one piece and in Bengaluru's 40% humidity swing it cups, gaps and eventually needs re-sanding.

02

Wear layer decides how many times it can be refinished

A 3mm veneer can be sanded twice; a 0.6mm veneer cannot be sanded at all. This is the single number to ask about, and it explains most of the price spread.

03

Acclimatisation is not optional

The planks sit in your flat, unpacked, for 72 hours before laying. Skipping this is why floors gap at the joints in the first dry season — and it is the step contractors skip when rushed.

04

Moisture barrier on every ground floor

A ground-floor slab wicks moisture upward year round. Without a barrier membrane the underside of the floor stays damp and the planks eventually cup.

How we do it

The parts that decide whether it lasts.

Every failure we get called to fix started with one of these being skipped.

Substrate levelled before laying

Over 3mm variation across 2 metres and the new floor will show every dip. Levelling compound costs a day; a bouncing floor costs the whole job.

Correct underlay for the material

Foam for laminate, cement adhesive for vitrified, and a moisture barrier on any ground floor. The wrong underlay is why floors creak and cup.

Expansion gap at every perimeter

Wood and vinyl move with Bengaluru's humidity swing. A floor laid tight to the wall will buckle in the first monsoon.

Set out from the sightline

Cut pieces go where nobody looks. A floor set out from the wrong edge puts a 40mm sliver right inside your doorway.

Step by step

How a wood floor is laid.

Slower than vinyl, and the extra days are all preparation.

Level check

We check the existing slab or screed with a straight edge. Anything over 3mm variation across 2 metres has to be levelled first, or the new floor will telegraph every dip.

Subfloor prep

Screed, self-levelling compound or an underlay depending on the material. This is the step that decides whether the floor creaks in year two.

Laying

Set out from the room centre or the main sightline so cut pieces land at the least visible edge, never at the doorway.

Finishing

Skirting, thresholds and expansion gaps at every wall. We hand over with the room cleaned and the offcuts removed.

Good questions

Questions worth asking first.

Bengaluru swings roughly 40% in relative humidity between March and August. Solid hardwood moves as one piece with that and cups or gaps. Engineered wood has a cross-ply core that cancels most of the movement, and it gives you the same surface.

It depends entirely on the wear layer. A 3mm veneer can be sanded twice, a 2mm once, and anything under 1mm not at all. Ask for this number specifically — it is the main thing separating a ₹280 and a ₹650 floor.

Yes, 72 hours unpacked in the room where it will be laid. This is the step most often skipped when a job is rushed, and it is why some wood floors develop gaps at the joints within the first dry season.

We would advise against it. A dishwasher or sink leak that sits unnoticed will damage the core. Luxury vinyl gives a very similar look in a kitchen with none of that risk.

Dry mop regularly, damp mop occasionally with a wood-safe cleaner, never wet mop. Felt pads under all furniture. A hardwax-oiled floor can be spot-repaired; a lacquered one usually needs a full re-coat of the room.
