SPC has a rigid mineral core that barely moves with temperature. Flexible LVT expands more and telegraphs every bump in the substrate underneath. We fit SPC in almost every case.
Vinyl absorbs impact sound rather than reflecting it like tile. In an apartment with neighbours below, this is a real and noticeable difference.
The number that matters is the wear layer in mils — 12 mil for bedrooms, 20 mil for living areas. The overall plank thickness tells you almost nothing about durability.
Every failure we get called to fix started with one of these being skipped.
Over 3mm variation across 2 metres and the new floor will show every dip. Levelling compound costs a day; a bouncing floor costs the whole job.
Foam for laminate, cement adhesive for vitrified, and a moisture barrier on any ground floor. The wrong underlay is why floors creak and cup.
Wood and vinyl move with Bengaluru's humidity swing. A floor laid tight to the wall will buckle in the first monsoon.
Cut pieces go where nobody looks. A floor set out from the wrong edge puts a 40mm sliver right inside your doorway.

We check the existing slab or screed with a straight edge. Anything over 3mm variation across 2 metres has to be levelled first, or the new floor will telegraph every dip.
Screed, self-levelling compound or an underlay depending on the material. This is the step that decides whether the floor creaks in year two.

LVT is flexible and conforms to the substrate, showing every imperfection underneath. SPC has a rigid mineral core that bridges minor unevenness and barely moves with temperature. In Bengaluru we fit SPC almost every time.
For kitchens, utilities and homes with small children, yes, because water stops being a risk. For a dry bedroom, good laminate at AC4 is comparable and often cheaper. It depends entirely on the room.
12 mil for bedrooms, 20 mil for living rooms and corridors. Note this is the wear layer, not total plank thickness — a thick plank with a thin wear layer will still scratch through quickly.
Yes, and usually does. Click-lock SPC floats over a sound tiled floor with an underlay. Deep grout lines over about 6mm need filling first, or they will eventually show through.
